We are delighted to offer for sale this spectacular AC Cobra 289 FIA race car.

Finished in Red with Silver hard top and roundels, engine originally built by Steve Warrior.

This Cobra was commissioned in 2010 for Jackie Cochrane of Northern Island.
Built by Lech Kowalski of Kirkham Cars, chassis and aluminium body built by Kirkham.

Purchased in 20214 renown classic racing driver John Young and built to FIA specification.
Mr Young raced the Cobra at 2015 Goodwood Members Meeting achieving 6th place finish with a best lap of 1.26.9. (the fastest lap of that race was 1.26.6)

The car was acquired by J.D. Classics (Woodham Mortimer) in 2018 and again rebuilt by them including a fresh Steve Warrior engine.
Sold by Woodham Mortimer in 2019 where we understand the car went to Germany, offered for sale in 2023 and inspected by Britec Motorsports who reported the Cobra to be excellent condition, while in their care photo documentation, engine power run as well as oil change.

The current owner entrusted the Cobra to ourselves Redline Engineering UK for an inspection, during which time we provided detailed feedback, including proposed updates and vehicle’s weight, which came in at a very competitive 990kg (with fuel).

July 2024 Redline carried out a number of mechanical improvements including new gearbox, Tilton clutch hydraulic release, fit new harness, fabricate radiator ducting panels, spanner check.
It was agreed to go to Cobra racing Legend Gary Spencer of Classic Racing Cars where the car received a large number of upgrades including new racing anti roll bar front and rear, new brake and clutch master cylinders, rolling road check fit,  bias valve, various mechanical amendments, overhaul front and rear suspension including new racing hubs, new racing discs, overhaul cooling system, set up, check and record car corner weights, set up bump and rebound on dampers, complete geometry set up, check bumper steer, fit new Tillett racing seat.
After this work was completed, CRC delivered the Cobra to Donington Park for testing by both the owner and Redline’s Neil Fisher, a respectable best time of 1:21.3  with only 6 laps. Ran faultlessly throughout the entire test day.

This year returning to Gary Spencer (CRC) for fresh, HTP papers (2-35), roll cage upgrade, new bladder fuel tank, spanner and check over prier the next race, Olton Park achieving 6th overal (1st in class).

To date, the Cobra has been maintained without regard to cost and prepared to the highest standards. It has been thoroughly enjoyed on the EQUIPE Racing Libra grid, where it consistently achieved top 10 finishes.

Proving its competitive edge at both GoodWood and with the Equipe Racing, prepared by current Cobra specalists  recognised as the UK’S leading historic race series.
