AC Cobra Lightweight offered for sale by Redline Engineering UK.

Built at historical Brooklands race track in Weybridge surrey, first registered 1st  January 1990.

These wonderful hand built sports cars were produced using traditional coach building methods.

Hand built from a ladder frame chassis through to the hand made aluminium body using traditional skills and tooling.

Each lightweight engine is hand assembled, interiors trimmed with finest leathers and carpets.

AC Cars claim each car had over 2500 man hours go into manufacturing each car.

Lightweight examples have always been a very rare and desirable Cobra to own due to limited numbers built. The similar traits to a MkIII body, to the raw sound from the stage 3 tuned Ford V8 engine make these the Cobra to own amongst Cobra and classic car enthusiasts.

The stunning example we offer today was first registered 1st January 1990 – originally finished in white with red / gold pin line centre stripe, black leather interior with red piping, 5 speed gearbox, drivers chrome roll bar, chrome stone guards, weather equipment including tonneau cover.

Exported to Super Hawaii dealership in Japan. Not to be mistaken with later AC Cobra MKIV’S this is a FULL BLOWN Lightweight specification motorcar, these limited number motorcars holding the very important “L” in their chassis number. Later lightweights built for Super Hawaii were spec’d with a 3 speed heater, a semi lightweight dash with modern warning lights and switch gear, inertia reel seat belts.

Before you ask, a Lightweight is a lighter version of the MkIV – with the following: lighter chassis, MkIII aluminium shape body, MkIII style interior including the original switches & warning lights, MkIII steering column & wood rim steering wheel hand made by Mota Lita, stage 3 small block Ford 302 V8 carburettor engine producing around 340 BHP.

Sold to a private collector the cobra was part of a collection for many years, during that time the colour was changed to black with a twin white stripes, wheel centres painted black.

In 2007 Hendon Way Motor company brought the AC back to the UK where it remained in their hands until 2015 when the car was sold to the new owner who asked for the car to be repainted in the stunning colour “Navy Blue” which remains to this day as does the original black leather interior.

In 2019 the AC was sold to the present owner, a wonderful AC enthusiast who has owned during his time 3 original AC Cobras.

Redline was asked to inspect and report back our findings which required a mechanical overhaul – this included tuning the engine, replacement dampers and suspension set up, replacing the fuel pumps and flushing the fuel system, full service rectifying various after market mods etc.

4 UK owners.

Documented in both “Shelby World Register” and AC Owners Club Register.
